As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The aim is to move your chips carefully around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With competing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon tactics to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to move their pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if he/she ever tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point eleven in your board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to block the movement of the opponent, the opponent does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your chips and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions hoping to better your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game tactic uses different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game technique is frequently employed when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the checkers are moved is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
