As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to shift your pieces safely around the board to your home board and at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at particular times. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Strategy
If the purpose of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift their checkers, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he/she at all tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your game board. As soon as you’ve successfully built the prime to block the activity of your competitor, the competitor does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you shift your chips and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.
The Back Game Technique
The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions with hope to improve your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game plan uses alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game plan is generally used when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
