As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and good luck. The goal is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your home board while at the same time your opposing player moves their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular strategies at particular times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon techniques to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get bumped, or result a damaged position if he ever attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you have successfully assembled the prime to block the movement of your opponent, your competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your checkers and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to harm your competitor’s positions in hope to boost your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game tactic uses seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often utilized when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This strategy is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
