As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to move your chips carefully around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition moves their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player pieces moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at specific times. Here are the two final Backgammon plans to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift his pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely block any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if he/she ever tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point two and point eleven in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, the competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to improve your chances of winning, however the Back Game technique utilizes alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game plan is generally employed when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
