In extraordinarily simple terms, there are 3 fundamental plans employed. You want to be able to hop between game plans instantly as the action of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This is comprised of assembling a 6-thick wall of pieces, or at a minimum as thick as you can manage, to block in the opponent’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most acceptable procedure at the start of the game. You can build the wall anyplace inbetween your 11-point and your two-point and then move it into your home board as the match advances.

The Blitz

This consists of locking your home board as fast as as you can while keeping your competitor on the bar. e.g., if your competitor tosses an early two and moves one piece from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then toss a five-five, you will be able to play 6/1 6/1 eight/three 8/3. Your challenger is now in big-time dire straits seeing that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inside board!

The Backgame

This plan is where you have 2 or more anchors in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor is a point filled by at a minimum two of your pieces.) It would be employed when you are extremely behind as it greatly improves your chances. The better areas for anchor spots are close to your opponent’s smaller points and either on abutting points or with a single point separating them. Timing is essential for a powerful backgame: after all, there is no reason having two nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then required to break up this straight away, while your opposer is getting their checkers home, owing to the fact that you do not have other additional pieces to move! In this case, it is more favorable to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to maintain your position until your challenger gives you an opportunity to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your opposer to get them in this case!
