As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of talent and pure luck. The aim is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player moves their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With competing player chips moving in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular strategies at specific instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the aim of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move their pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely stop any activity of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or result a bad position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your game board. As soon as you have successfully built the prime to prevent the movement of your competitor, the opponent doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions with hope to better your chances of winning, but the Back Game strategy relies on different tactics to do that. The Back Game tactic is commonly used when you’re far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This technique is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
