As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and luck. The aim is to shift your pieces safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their checkers toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move his checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely block any movement of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if he ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. As soon as you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of your competitor, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you shift your checkers and roll the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to harm your competitor’s positions in hope to improve your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy uses different tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is commonly used when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this strategy, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This tactic is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
