As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and pure luck. The goal is to shift your checkers safely around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for particular strategies at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get hit, or result a bad position if he/she ever tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your game board. After you’ve successfully assembled the prime to stop the movement of your opponent, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice yet again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The goals of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of winning, but the Back Game tactic relies on different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is generally utilized when you are far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
