As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and luck. The aim is to shift your checkers safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition moves their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With competing player chips moving in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the aim of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift their chips, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely block any activity of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if he ever attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. After you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, the competitor doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and toss the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to harm your competitor’s positions in hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game technique relies on alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game plan is generally used when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
