As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and good luck. The aim is to shift your chips carefully around the board to your home board while at the same time your opposition moves their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon techniques to round out your game.
The Priming Game Strategy
If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move their chips, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely block any movement of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, the opponent doesn’t even get to toss the dice, that means you move your pieces and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions in hope to better your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game tactic utilizes seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is often utilized when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this tactic, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This tactic is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
