As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of talent and pure luck. The aim is to move your checkers safely around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at particular instances. Here are the last two Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move her chips, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely block any activity of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if he ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of your opponent, the opponent doesn’t even get a chance to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The goals of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game tactic utilizes seperate tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is generally employed when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this plan, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
