Playing backgammon could be fun, especially if you understand how to win by playing excellently. But once in a while a hint or two might help you even more and develop you into a better competitor.
One of the greatest game plans to win is to barricade your opponent in. It will keep them from shifting their checkers away from your home board. This has to be accomplished early in the match to keep your competitors 2 checkers in your home board. So you need to shift your pieces to points seven, five, and four as swiftly as possible and even 2 and 3 if possible. Keep your point of six with the six pieces where it is. This will ensure that your opposition cannot get out of your home board and aid your chances of blocking them in to come out on top.
By locking your opposition in, they will be praying for double sixes when all other options have been made to get those 2 pieces out of your home board. If doubles aren’t rolled, your challenger will be required to move one piece at a time, as long as they roll a six or greater, and leave 1 checker vulnerable behind. Of course while veering off your own pieces, be certain you don’t leave one by itself where your opposition can send you off to the bar to make your way through their side.
When you’re not sure what to do, hit. This can help you win largely because as soon as your opponent is hit, that piece is the piece they need to move before they can do anything else on the board. So if you hit them several times, they will have to get several pieces back on the board and get past your checkers to win. Be certain you don’t hit where it’ll cause you to be open to being hit yourself. Unless of course it will be advantageous to you, as in early on in the game when your opposition won’t have you blocked in.
Landing a hit when you have a lock started can also be great because once you get several spots locked, your opponent will have a difficult time moving their pieces out of your home board and winning. It is even possible to hit them numerous times and get your lock ready. That way you can stop them from re-entering the game board and even having a chance at crushing you.
These 2 hints are not the only way to win, but they are excellent ideas for novices to develop into more skillfull players. When you conquer these, being victorious most of the time certainly won’t seem to be such a difficult thing to do.
